The Health Law Institute (Institut Droit et Santé), set at the heart of Paris-Descartes University, is as an interdisciplinary institute for research, expertise and learning in the area of health law. The institute brings together experts from various fields (such as law, medicine, pharmacy, economics, sociology, biology and psychology), who jointly work towards a better understanding of health law related issues.
In addition to legal advice, the Institute provides learning opportunities, advice to organizations in the public health sector and expertise on matters having a significant impact on health law or healthcare policy. Moreover, since patterns in European-wide policy-making process suggest that it will become increasingly difficult to define health issues in purely domestic terms, our Institute undertakes research on both domestic and European current issues in health law.
Given the current debates about bioethics and regulation of biomedical research, funding of healthcare system, health care regulation at both national and European level and continuing technological innovation, the importance of the health law field cannot be overstated.
We focus on cutting-edge topics such as ethical and legal issues pertaining to patients’ rights, bioethics and new medical technologies, questions of health organization policy and health security, obligations of health care providers, pharmaceutical and health products new regulations, environmental and animal health.
The Health Law Institute is co-directed by two professors from Paris-Descartes University: Anne LAUDE, professor of law and Didier TABUTEAU, associate professor and health chair director at Sciences Po Paris.
The members of the Health Law Institute are in particular Olivier AMEDEE-MANESME, Mireille BACACHE-GIBEILI, Xavier CABANNES, Duncan FAIRGRIEVE, Luc GRYNBAUM, Camille KOUCHNER and Jérôme PEIGNE.
The main collaborators of the Institute are: Manon Bonnet, Frédérique Célestin, Amélie Chioccarello, Aurélia Delhaye, Aurélie Gabriel, Valérie Lefèvre, Clémentine Lequillerier, Mihaela Matei, Camille Parpex, Julia de Pingon, Noémie Vermeil.
